Why the CombiRank average rule misses

The rule repeated across guides and Reddit threads is that a child lands between its two parents in rank order. Checked against all 82,944 pairs in the table, it holds 53.9% of the time.

That average flatters it. When the two parents sit far apart, the gap between them is so wide that almost any child falls inside it, and the test passes without meaning much. Split the same pairs by how far apart the parents are and it comes apart at the near end. For two Pals within 31 places of each other it is right 15.9% of the time.

This is why the calculator above looks the answer up rather than computing it. On close-ranked pairs a tool built on the average rule would be wrong 84.1% of the time, and it would be wrong quietly.

The 234 pairs that hatch Anubis

The verdict above says catch whenever it cannot assemble a pair within six generations, which is where it stops looking. Owning one half moves you less than it feels like it should: even for the pairs that come available earliest, the slower half only arrives at generation 20.

One pair needs no plan at all: a male and female Anubis produce Anubis. That holds for the whole roster, all 288 of 288 Pals. Select Anubis in the calculator to see it.

The remaining 140 pairs are not listed because breeding up from the three starters never produces one of their halves. A starter box reaches 257 of the 288 Pals, and each of those pairs needs one of the rest, so it is a catching job rather than a plan. What this Palworld Anubis breeding plan leaves out

The chain above is a minimum-generation route through the species table, not a full plan for an evening. Three things it does not model, each of which can make a real run longer than the generation count suggests.

Gender is the big one. The table pairs species, but the Breeding Farm needs one male and one female, and a Pal you hatched may come out the wrong sex for the next step. Every generation in a Palworld Anubis breeding chain can therefore cost several eggs rather than one, and the deeper steps are where that hurts, because by then you are waiting on a specific Pal rather than any of a dozen.

Cake is the second. One egg is one Cake, so a generation that takes four eggs takes four Cakes. Price the run first if the verdict above put you several generations out.

The third is storage. A chain assumes you still have every Pal you hatched along the way, because later steps breed the earlier results together. Releasing an intermediate to free a slot can cost you more than the slot was worth.
